Can Guinea Pigs Eat Broccoli Raab / Broccoli Rabe / Rapini?

There are so many vegetables with similar names, so let's distinguish a few things from each other:
  • Broccoli - If you're a human, your parents probably made you eat this before you were allowed to eat your dessert. (If you're a guinea pig, you're probably a lot better about eating your vegetables than human kids are!)
  • Broccolini / Broccolette - This is a hybrid between regular broccoli and Chinese broccoli.
  • Chinese broccoli - Also known as kai lan, gai lan, and Chinese kale. I don't think we've tried this one yet.
  • Broccoli Raab / Broccoli Rabe / Rapini - This is what we're reviewing today!
(And, of course, there is Broccoli the guinea pig, who no one would confuse with a vegetable!)

Please be aware that broccoli raab is very high in vitamin A, so you should only feed it once or twice a month, and limit other foods that are high in vitamin A (for example, kale) around those times.

Let me in! I want to try Broccoli Raab!
Sometime you just got to be pushy, or you'll miss out on a new food!
It's tasty.
Broccoli raab was good, although we got bored of it towards the end and left some chunks for the humans to clean up. It gets 3.5/5 stars!

  1. Hi Cavy Savvy! Sorry to bother you...but I got another question. I asked you guys about guinea pigs before on the most recent hay review. My mom said ......yes I could get a cavy! I am buying a C&C cage at GuineaPigCages.com and all the supplies myself. The only major problem is...
    My mom said I could only get ONE GUINEA PIG. Everything I've read

I know to get two females and how to introduce and stuff, but she still says she doesn't want me to get two. My grandma told my mom she took care of a guinea pig in a little cage and he was fine alone and now she's basing her reasons on this. Bummer, right? It seems like it's over with persuading her or anything.....so let me know. Is it alright just to keep one if you spend a lot of time with your cavy? Please give me some information if this is okay. And do not make me feel bad .....there's not much I can do about keeping just one. I know you have three pigs.....but still! Is there a way this is alright to keep a single guinea pig. Thanks!!}

    2. Hi Nature Girl,
      Sorry to tell you this, but according to Guinea Lynx, "Guinea pigs are extremely social, herd animals and thrive in the company of another pig. A human can't take the place of a guinea pig companion." They say that if you are going to be away for a large part of the day, it's even more important, so it might be slightly less bad if you spend a lot of time with your new piggy, but it's much, much better if you get a second piggy. I don't suppose you live in Sweden? They have a law making it illegal to sell just one guinea pig. If I were you, I would let your mom know that what she plans to do is illegal in at least one country--perhaps that information will persuade her to let you have two. Again, we're not trying to make you feel bad. We just want to see a happy outcome for everyone involved. If your new piggy is happy, then you'll be happy, and your mom should then be happy. It'll be a win-win situation. Keep us updated and let us know what happens!

  2. Okay, so after talking to my mom...she said she'll think about it. I'm planning on writing a persuasive report on this too. You didn't make me feel bad about it -you actually helped me and gave me a better chance of getting two! Of course if my mom says no, I could not bring myself to
