Merry Christmas 2013 from Cavy Savvy!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays, everyone! Thanks for reading our posts, leaving comments, and listening to our feelings about guinea pig things!

Just to be clear, I'm not pulling any sleds around anywhere.
What did we get for Christmas, you ask? Take a look:

We'll be reviewing our Christmas present sometime soon.

  3. Hello, guinea pigs. I have an urgent question and I would like for you to answer it ASAP. I got two male guinea pigs five days ago. They looked very healthy and had no sign of any problems. The one cavy, Russell, started to be less normal and last night when he was playing on the floor I saw that he had a sort of tilting head. It would tilt to the side slowly, then it would snap back. Anyways, he also had a wobbly gait, or way of walking, and he went in circles , he looked all dizzy... Later on today I noticed that his nose was really runny and this milky stuff was coming out. What is wrong with him? If you could tell me could you also let me know what I can do to help him get better? I don't want him to die!!!

    2. Hi Nature Girl,
While we aren't vets and can't diagnose your piggy remotely, what you are describing sounds like it could be something serious. The fact that Russell is tilting his head sideways suggests it could be an ear infection; if it is, Russell will need to be treated ASAP. However, there's no way of knowing for sure what Russell has or how serious it is until you take him in to the vet. Please take him in as soon as you can, and let us know what happens!

    3. Sounds to me like rye neck or pasturela if it is rye neck it is probably caused by an ear infection. That is treatable. If it is pasturela.... He will have to be put to sleep. This is clearly speculation on my part. After years of breeding you see a lot of things in your animals. I know this blog frowns on breeding pigs but through breeding my animals i have learned more than most vets.
