Palestinian Guest Piggies: Hamlet and Sir Francis Bacon

We checked our email the other day, and found a submission for a guest piggy post from some guinea pigs in the Palestinian territories! We generally try to stay out of human politics- we've got enough going on with cage politics, for example, how Broccoli is always trying to steal my role as the dominant piggy. Please keep in mind that the views below belong to Hamlet and Sir Francis Bacon. If people have other views, feel free to express them in the comments section, but let's try to keep it civil. Shouting makes us run for cover in our pigloos. :-)

So without further ado, let's hear from Hamlet and Sir Francis Bacon!

Marhaba, hey there, we’re Hamlet and Sir Francis Bacon. We’re brothers and Palestinian piggies, even though our human gave us clever British piggy-names. We live in Ramallah in the West Bank part of the occupied Palestinian territory with our human, an American expat, who works in aid and development.  We were rescued from a pet-prison when we were babies. It was terrifying there.  We were in a tiny glass cell and didn’t have food or water and Sir Francis Bacon had scurvy and mange. Our human brought us to a vet, but the vet didn’t even know what we were, so he wouldn’t treat us. Sir Francis Bacon almost died but our human worked really hard to find a vet who knew about piggies, and that vet gave us ivermectin shots and now we are six months old and really fat and healthy!
                                     

Our human is good like that. She gets really mad at the pet-prison we came from, but she knows it’s hard to fight for humane treatment of piggies when people in Palestine don’t have basic rights. We hope we can live with her forever but if she leaves here we don’t think we can go with her to the United States. There are lots of checkpoints and much like the Palestinian people, we don’t have pig-ports that help us travel abroad.
We live in a giant pig-pen, with two separate pig-loos, it’s like a piggy villa! We love it so much that we never want to come out. Unless there’s a plate of food involved. We love to read about Lola and Broccoli and Buffy and we try a lot of the foods they tell us about. We love mint, parsley, fennel, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, apples, strawberries, and corn, especially the husks. We don’t like bananas and figs so much. We don’t think there are many more piggies in Palestine, and we certainly hope there are no piggies in Gaza right now. It makes us sad to think about the plight of humans there. We hope that humans all over the world will start caring more about each other and of course about piggies and other animals, even the wild dogs that bark all night and scare us. We know it’s not their fault.

Hi there, Cavy Savvy readers!

Hello! My name is Bandit. I live with Fluffy, Olympia, Sandy, and Celery, who have also been lucky enough to be featured on this blog! I am a texel, and I will be one year old in four months. I love, love, love to make noise! Whenever I run around, I make "chutting" noises. Also, I'm always the first to wheek for food!

I'm very shy, but it's kind of hard to hide sometimes because: 1) I'm very big for my age 2) I'm black and white colored. I love being a texel, the only problem is that the humans like to pick me up a lot (they say I'm very cute) and it's hard to clean my fur (I've got so much of it!) Thanks for reading about me!

Guinea Pig Product Review: DreamersStudio Snuggle Hut

As you may recall, we had a 300th post giveaway, and Marianberry was our grand prize winner. She won a DreamersStudio Snuggle Hut, and we gave her the option to let her piggies do a guest review of it since this is a product we've never tried. We're happy to say that her piggies decided to review it, which we will now share with you:

Hi! My name is Pippin, one of three guinea pigs in this family. I don't get to see the other two that much though, because the Human says I'm going through something called "guinea pig puberty". I have to stay in my own cage, which is a real drag. At least I get plenty of floor time, so I'm getting plenty of exercise!

When the Human brought home the DreamersStudio Snuggle Hut, at first I didn't know what to make of it. Sure, it was a change of scenery during floor time, but what was this strange thing?

???

I decided to explore it further.

So far, so good.

Cozy!

Later on, the Hut began to stink a little, so the Human took it away to wash.  I heard her oohing and ahhing over how easy it was to take the tube out and wash.  That really makes no sense to me; I just want to know when I can have it back to snuggle in some more!  But, cruel Human that she was, she put it in the other cage with the big meanies.  I think Fatty (who is slightly less mean than Merry) took a real liking to it.  

At least the Snuggle Hut made its way back to my area after the Human saw how their bedding and hay stuck to the fleece.  

Overall, the Snuggle Hut is one of my favorite places to nap, and the Human likes how easy it is to clean, as long as it's kept on fleece bedding or carpet, so I give the DreamersStudio Snuggle Hut a 5/5!

Guest Piggies: Fluffy, Olympia, Sandy and Celery

It's once again time for us to turn the keyboard over to some of our adorable readers out there. You're up, Fluffy, Olympia, Sandy and Celery!

Hello! My name is Fluffy! I am the dominant piggie on our island of cavies. I love my water...(as you can see by my photo).

I'm Olympia. I'm the same age as Fluffy (both of us are four years old), but I'm very shy. Despite my shyness, I'm very curious. The humans think my round nose is very cute.

Hi, I'm Sandy. I'm even shyer than Olympia. The only time I'll ever say hi to the humans is 1) if they have bananas or they smell like bananas or 2) if they have an Oxbow Timothy Treat.

I'm Celery, the youngest of the piggies and the only boy! I was actually sold as a girl at Petco, but they made a mistake. I wish that I could type a whole paragraph on myself, but I can't...

We like to play with each other, and it is very fun. We also all read Cavy Savvy. We try some of the foods that the Cavy Savvy pigs recommend. Thank you to Lola, Buffy, and Broccoli for inspiring us to try new foods!

Guest Piggies: Alphalpha and Zeeby

It's time for another guest piggie post! These cute guys come courtesy of loyal readers Amanda and Jackie. Without further ado, we'll turn it over to Alphalpha and Zeeby.

Time for us to type our first guest post!

Hi we're Alphalpha (left) and Zeeby (right) :) our favorite treat is carrots and we are big tricksters! We will squeak when our mommy comes into the room and then get a treat, and when our other mommy comes in we will also squeak for another treat. That way we get two hehehe! We also really like celery leaves and our mommies think its hilarious when one of us tries to take the snack out of the other ones mouth.

We love yummy hay! Om nom nom.

We love a clean cage and fresh hay! Even though we are 3 years old, we still love to popcorn all around our cage. We also love to squeak and 'wheet'. Our mommy says we are great company, and she love us so much!

Guest Piggies: Filonious And Hughbert

Hello, we are Filonious and Hughbert. We became friends 4 days before Mom and Dad moved us from New York to California for Dad's "other job" in the Army. His first job is taking care of us, of course. 

Filonious is the oldest, and Mom and Dad have had him longer, it was Hughbert who was adopted 4 days before our big move. It took time for us to bond, but now we enjoy cuddling, demanding more food, and knocking over our food dishes, as you can see in our picture.

Or favorite foods are timothy hay, oranges, the occasional broccoli, more hay, apples, and carrots but we're not usually picky about noms.

Guest Piggies: Ophy And Gatsby

Meet Ophy (Ophelia) and Gatsby! Ophy is an American shorthair and Gatsby is an Abyssinian. These two little girls are about six to seven months old now and full of personality and spunk! They love carrots, parsley and lettuce - lots of lettuce! 

Their favorite thing to do is wheek in their cage, popcorn and play with their new friend Bowyn- the 4 month old kitten. At first they weren't sure about the new addition, but once they realized that Bowyn will run away if they squeak at him they were ok! We absolutely hate baths but looove getting our nails clipped! 

Wow! We would be terrified if we were in a cage with such a fearsome creature!

Guest Piggies: Pop Tart And Scout

 

Pop Tart and Scout are the two lovely piggies you see above. Their humans are Christian, Sara, and Robert, and Pop Tart is best friends with Lola, their mixed breed terrier.

Pop Tart is a fiend for cilantro. They are both in love with romaine lettuce and green peppers, and apples always hit the spot.

We love all those foods, too! But I don't know about Lola the terrier. I think we'd probably run away and hide in our pigloos if we saw her. Pop Tart and Scout must be very brave.

Guest Piggies: Larry and Mo

Hi humans! Today's post is about our featured piggies, Larry and Mo. 

Larry and Mo are six-month old brothers. 

Their favorite foods are plain pellets, cantaloupe, cucumber, hay, carrots, dandelions, and grass.

Like Lola they love to cuddle up with their human, Bella, and watch TV. They especially enjoy cartoons!

Feeding Your Guinea Pig Wheatgrass

We came across this video of two guinea pigs named Riku and Sora eating some wheatgrass that their human grew for them. Did you know that you can grow wheatgrass from the wheat berries sold at places like Whole Foods? Neither did we! But we think it will be fun to try it, so we've sent our humans out to get some wheat berries. According to the human in the video, growing wheatgrass takes about one week, so we will try it and report back later. In the meantime, check out Riku and Sora:

Evil Guinea Pig Takes Over!

Our humans still haven't fixed the digital camera, so unfortunately our adorable images won't be gracing your computer screen until they get it repaired.

But we figured we'd post a status update on what's been going on with us lately. The humans fitted us with this terrible new device which we both hate. It's a small pet harness that they can use to walk us around outside on a leash. Why did they buy us this thing? Well, word around the water bottle is, the humans are gearing up for a pignic later this autumn in Maryland. We're excited to get out and see the world (and much on pesticide-free grass outdoors), but we didn't realize there'd actually be a harness involved. We were hoping to run around as we please. But more on that in a later post.

We've been watching piggie You Tube videos, and we came across this one which we thought looked cool:

You see that humans? If you keep trying to fit us into that awful pet harness, this is what we're capable of!

Guest Piggy: Flower

Hi, I'm Flower, and I live at the Long Branch Nature Center in Arlington, VA. I was adopted from SEAVS a few years ago. I was named after the skunk from Bambi. I'm an unusual looking pig, I guess, because the front half of my body has short hair, while the second half has long fur that doesn't stop growing.

I am very friendly since I am used to being around humans. The Long Branch Nature Center holds birthday parties and school trips, so I've met quite a few humans over the years. Sometimes I can be a little shy like all guinea pigs, but I never make an angry "burrr" sound if someone hold me.  

The humans tried to have me become friends with the bunny who also lives at the nature center, but I hate that rabbit. She's always picking on me, and if she comes too close to me, I'll attack her right back. I really prefer the company of humans instead.

Come over and meet me sometime!
