Today our humans fed us tomatoes on the vine, which we like. We also like cherry tomatoes and grape tomatoes. Roma tomatoes are also good. Heck, we'll eat just about any type of tomato.

Look at that juicy tomato! The humans like to cut it up so Buffy gets some as well. That's not necessary if you ask me. |
Yum! Next time, drop it in our dish faster. I was ready to pick it out of your hand!

Looks like you got some this time. Better eat it quick before I get hungry again! |
We give tomatoes of all kinds 5/5 stars. Like many fruits and vegetables, they should be given in moderation: about half of one tomato for two guinea pigs.
I recently got a guinea pig 3 weeks ago and he's a pretty picky eater. The only thing he really eats is hay and store bought guinea pig food. How do I get him to eat more?
ReplyDeleteHi Cameo, thanks for stopping by! Sometimes when you get a new guinea pig, it can take some time before they get accustomed to new foods. Broccoli ate very few foods at first, but now he loves almost everything: http://www.guineapigtoday.com/2011/12/31/can-guinea-pigs-learn/
ReplyDeleteJust keep trying, and soon he will learn which new foods are edible. And be sure to feed him the right kind of hay: Timothy hay, which should make up 85% of his diet.
Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.
also cameo..guinea pigs are only fed hay and pellets at the pet store so it does take some patients with some vegetables..just keep reintroducing them and im sure he/she will eventually be begging for more..they also love oranges and bananas but id limit it to a very small portion because of the sugar plus it can cause diarreah..good luck..but piggies make the best of friends! ive always favored guinea pigs rather than hamster because they dont tend to bite like hamsters do..i just got my 2yr old daughter one and she loves her so much!
ReplyDeleteJust a friendly reminder that tomato tops and leaves are poisonous to us guinea pigs!! D:
