Today the humans decided to give us corn! Guinea pigs can eat corn, but only 1-2 times per week, although the corn husks and silks can be fed daily. You should not give us COOKED corn, though. Only raw. We can't digested cooked food. We guinea pigs love to eat corn, and we actually prefer the husks and silk. In fact, our favorite part is the husks, followed by the silk, followed by the corn. We aren't really interested in eating the cob, though.
One thing about the husks: please throw out the outer most husks and only feed us the leaves of the husk that are closest to the corn. This cuts down on the danger of pesticides, and it is safer for us overall.
The three edible parts of the corn.
We ate the husks first, followed by the yummy corn silk.
Lola and I fought over the corn. You can hear her whining about it in the video above when I stole it back from her. I think you humans are crazy for not wanting to eat the husks and silk. Don't you realize what you're missing? We give corn 5/5 stars!
This is a great site ! My piggies loved the corn :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ryan! I hope you fed them the husks and the silk, too.

ReplyDeleteMine doesn't like anything really. Only grass, dandelion, carrots, most fruits and veggies...seriously. she turns her nose up to a lot of foods and that list is growing. She's healthy. Just a picky eater.
ReplyDeleteLola (#2) is kind of the same way. She turns up her nose at a lot of the foods we love. She's always liked carrots, though. And she's finally convinced that tomatoes are good to eat.
DeleteAm I being a cruel nana by only having one little lovely gunnie pig ,I bought her for my granddaughter for Christmas and she is allergic to her so I have her I love her so much but worry am I doing write in only hsveing miss poooooper hervresl name is miss Herminie
ReplyDeleteI have heard that two - for company - is best. But I've found if one has been kept alone for after a year or so, they can become territorial. If you decide to purchase another, I'd purchase a pair with a cage linked to the first, so they can speak to the first, but not interact. Just my opinion after much reading and research. I'd say as long as you take Herminie out daily to give her attention and allow her lots of grazing foods 24/7, she will still be a happy, yet solitary cavy.
DeleteI seriously LOVE this blog! My girls are Miss Winnie and Miss Maggie. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice comment, Jennifer! We seriously love our readers! :)
DeleteVickyrees, you should have at least two pigs. Would you be happy living alone, only with a giant giving you food and picking you up occasionally? Pigs are herd animals with a hierarchy system, and do best with two or more together. Hope this helps!
