Can Guinea Pigs Eat Orange Bell Peppers?

We reviewed red bell peppers way back in 2011, but never got around to the other colors of bell peppers. Until now, that it is. Today, we're reviewing orange bell peppers. Green, yellow, orange and red bell peppers all come from the same plant, but are at different levels of maturity. Orange and yellow bell peppers are in the middle between green (the least mature) and red (the most mature).

That pepper is semi-mature.
Orange bell peppers are not on our favorite food chart, although green, yellow and red ones are. According to the chart, red bell peppers should be fed less often than green and yellow because they are higher in sugar. Since orange and red bell peppers seem to have the same amount of sugar, we're going to recommend that you feel orange bell peppers by the red bell pepper guidelines, which means you can feed them 2-4 times per week.

Yum!
Orange bell peppers are just as good as the red ones, and also get 5/5 stars!

  1. I love coming to the site. My baby boy Toby can be a very picky eater, and I'm always trying to find new things to feed him. Or at least some things for him to try, little bugger wont eat everything, and lets you know he doesn't like it, but making a mess with it. XD But he's my baby, and I never feed him anything without checking up on it first. And this site is always my first(And most times my last) place to check. So thank you for all the help!

  2. My vet's office sees a number of guinea pigs in their practice that have diarrhea due to being fed bell peppers. I hope you three never get diarrhea! :-) xo Jennifer

    1. We hadn't heard anything about this until you mentioned this. However, we did a quick search, and found at least one other person who said bell peppers had this effect on their piggy. We've been fine so far, though! :-)

  3. Mine don't have an issue with that and they get a couple small pieces per pig per day. Maybe the cases reported are feeding too much.

    1. That's quite possible. We still have a couple colors of bell peppers left to review. In our next bell pepper review, perhaps we'll mention something about this after doing some more research.

  4. Our owner gives us these but it takes us a while to finish them. I guess they aren't something that we can eat up just as fast as carrots.
